While Chief Moore refrained from using the term “serial killer,” Mayor Bass was unequivocal in her characterization of the murderer as someone preying on the unhoused population. She implored homeless individuals not to sleep alone and urged friends and relatives to warn their loved ones of the danger they face, encouraging them to seek shelter. During this episode, she fatally stabbed O’Melia multiple times, inflicting devastating wounds. In a distressing twist, Spejcher also inflicted self-harm by repeatedly stabbing herself. The following morning, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to a horrifying sight. O’Melia lay in a pool of blood, while Spejcher, still gripping a knife, screamed hysterically. As officers attempted to disarm her, she further endangered herself by plunging the knife into her own neck. Despite the officers’ efforts to intervene, it took the use of a taser and multiple baton blows to finally disarm her and secure the scene.
