Pedestrian Fatality on I-880 in Oakland

Tragedy struck on Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland in the early hours of Thursday when a semi-truck hit and killed a pedestrian. All southbound lanes were closed for nearly 20 minutes following the incident.

The accident was reported at 3:39 a.m., just north of the southbound off-ramp at 23rd Avenue. A Sigalert was issued at 3:49 a.m., diverting traffic off the highway at 16th Avenue. By 4:07 a.m., traffic was allowed through the two far-left southbound lanes, and all lanes have since been reopened.
