A woman was arrested following a brief standoff with the American Canyon Police Department on Thursday morning. The incident was sparked when the suspect, who was stopped on the highway, refused to comply with officers’ directions.
According to ACPD, officers noticed a stolen 2019 Nissan Sentra heading southbound on Highway 29. When they initiated a traffic stop, the driver refused to exit the vehicle, leading to a standoff. As a result, the southbound lanes of the highway near Mid City Nursery at 3635 Broadway Street were shut down.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office deployed a drone to assist the officers. The drone footage showed the driver continually reaching into a wooden box inside the car. After repeated commands were ignored, police fired “bean bag rounds” at the car. The driver then exited the vehicle and was apprehended.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Sabrina Annal of Fairfield, had multiple felony warrants from Solano County for vehicle theft, vehicle pursuits, and hit-and-run incidents. Following the standoff, Annal was booked into Napa County Jail for vehicle theft, being a felon in possession of a stun gun, and resisting arrest.
This case highlights the measures that law enforcement must sometimes take to ensure public safety and the apprehension of individuals wanted on felony charges.
