Los Angeles County Faces Heat Advisory as Temperatures Rise

Parts of Los Angeles County have been placed under a heat advisory due to the expected high temperatures throughout the rest of the workweek and weekend. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued the advisory, which begins on Thursday.

The areas affected include West San Gabriel Mountains/Hwy 14 Corridor, East San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Clarita Valley, Santa Susana Mountains, San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County, San Gabriel Valley, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Santa Monica Mountains, and Northwest LA County Mountains/Interstate 5 Corridor. The advisory is expected to end on Friday.

Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis stressed the dangers of high temperatures, particularly for children, the elderly, and pets, and underscored the importance of staying hydrated and cool. He advised against leaving these vulnerable groups unattended in homes without air conditioning or in vehicles.

City officials have urged the public to stay in the shade or inside air-conditioned buildings and wear light-colored clothing, sunglasses, or use umbrellas. Residents are also encouraged to check on those with chronic medical conditions who may be sensitive to extreme heat.

A list of cooling centers can be found on the city’s website. This advisory underscores the challenging conditions many are facing due to the heatwave and the importance of taking steps to stay safe during this time.
