DUI Driver Causes Fatal Collision in San Jose

Multiple deadly collisions have occurred on San Jose roadways in the past 72 hours, the latest occurring early Thursday when an SUV driver ran a red light, colliding with a Scion sedan. The collision resulted in the death of one man and left another in critical condition. The Nissan SUV driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

This incident is San Jose’s 27th fatal collision and the 28th traffic death in 2023. The tragic event follows another on Tuesday when a mother and her two young daughters were struck by a vehicle while crossing King Road, resulting in the death of the mother’s infant. The family was not walking within a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident.

On Monday, a police chase led to a five-vehicle collision on Capitol Expressway and Story Road, where the suspect vehicle crashed. The suspect and another person were apprehended after a foot chase and were booked into a Santa Clara County jail on felony charges.

These incidents underscore the grave consequences of traffic violations such as DUI and highlight the ongoing challenges faced by San Jose authorities in ensuring road safety.
