UC Berkeley Building and Crime Scene

Homicide Case Opened After Skeletal Remains Found at UC Berkeley

Skeletal remains discovered on the University of California at Berkeley campus were identified as those of Steven McCreary, a Texas man, and his death has been ruled a homicide. The bones were found in a brick storage building on the university’s Clark Kerr campus in January.

McCreary, who was around 37 years old when he was last known to be alive, was not affiliated with the university or a Bay Area resident. He was known to travel around the country, often hitchhiking or riding trains. The condition of McCreary’s bones, as analyzed by the Alameda County coroner, indicated that he was killed by someone else.

The campus police are now seeking help from the community to solve the crime. The Clark Kerr campus, where McCreary’s remains were found, is used as student housing and event space. The building in question, built in 1928, has been unoccupied since 1979 due to seismic safety concerns. This case underscores the importance of community assistance in solving crimes and highlights the potential for unsolved mysteries within seemingly quiet academic communities.
