On Saturday, fire crews in La Habra, Orange County, rescued a calf that had become trapped in a storm drain canal.
The calf was discovered around 6:15 p.m. near Sonora High School on the 400 block of Palm Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Officials said the calf had jumped from the high school’s farming area, landing in the canal.
Videos from the scene showed multiple fire crews descending into the drain area and securing the calf into a harness. A rescue truck was then used to lift the calf out of the canal and safely back onto land.
Once removed from the harness, the calf appeared to be uninjured and in good spirits. It was able to walk back to the school grounds on its own where it was reunited with school staff members.
Sonora High School is part of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, which is known for its agricultural studies program that involves housing livestock on school campuses.
