Bear Sighting Prompts Warning in Novato

Authorities are warning residents in Novato about a bear sighting reported on Sunday evening. According to the Novato Police Department, a mother bear and her two cubs were spotted in the area of Miwok Park at 2200 Novato Blvd.

The police department is advising the community to exercise extreme caution when entering the area, particularly in wooded or brush-filled locations. Although bears generally avoid human contact and aggressive behavior is rare, residents are still advised to be vigilant.

If anyone encounters a bear, they should avoid approaching it, especially if it is feeding or with offspring. Furthermore, individuals should not run but slowly back away without turning their back on the bear. If attacked, lying down and playing dead is not recommended
