Librado Ruiz Rojo, a 22-year-old man from Oxnard, was sentenced to prison on Thursday for a fatal stabbing that occurred at a house party in 2020. According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Rojo could face a prison term anywhere from 16 years to life for the murder of Carlos Murillo.
Rojo pleaded guilty to one felony count of second-degree murder with a special allegation that he used a knife to kill Murillo. The fatal incident took place on January 26, 2020, when Oxnard police officers received reports of a stabbing at a home on the 3000 block of Sycamore Street.
Investigations revealed that Rojo challenged Murillo and his group of friends to a fight as they were leaving the party. During the ensuing physical altercation, Rojo stabbed Murillo multiple times. When police arrived at the scene, Murillo was pronounced dead, having been stabbed 10 times.
The sentencing of Rojo is a stark reminder of the severe legal consequences of violent actions. This case, while tragic, underscores the importance of the justice system in holding individuals accountable for their actions and providing some form of closure to the victims’ families.
