Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles, has passed away at the age of 77. Known for his high harmonies in beloved tracks like “Take It Easy” and “The Best of My Love” and for his lead role in the ballad “Take It to the Limit”, Meisner died in Los Angeles on Wednesday night due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to a statement from the Eagles.
In recent years, Meisner has faced numerous health challenges and personal tragedies, including the accidental death of his wife, Lana Rae Meisner, in 2016. Court records and comments made during a 2015 hearing reveal that Meisner had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had severe issues with alcohol, leading to a judge ordering constant medical care for him.
Meisner, fondly referred to as “the sweetest man in the music business” by his former bandmate Don Felder, joined Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Bernie Leadon in the early 1970s to form the Eagles. The band, based in Los Angeles, became one of the most popular acts in music history.
Meisner’s loss is undoubtedly a significant one for the music industry, underlining the profound influence and contribution he made to the Eagles and the world of music at large.
