Christian Dominguez, a 21-year-old assistant water polo coach at Ramona High School in Riverside, beloved by students and colleagues, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident involving an unlicensed teen driver. The incident marks a significant loss for the Riverside community.
The fatal accident occurred on July 25, while Christian was riding his motorcycle on the westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway near Ivy Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, an unlicensed teenager driving recklessly in an Acura TSX sedan abruptly changed lanes and collided with Christian. The impact led to Christian’s death, while the teen driver fled the scene.
Remembered by family, friends, and colleagues for his kindness, mentoring skills, and passion for coaching water polo and swimming, Christian leaves a profound legacy. Cindy Robinson, head coach of boys’ water polo at Ramona High School, spoke warmly of Christian’s dedication and willingness to help others. Community members are now working on establishing a scholarship in Christian’s honor.
Following the incident, with the aid of dashcam video, authorities managed to locate and arrest the teen driver in Hemet the next day. Although drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the accident, the teen could face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. This tragic accident underscores the importance of safe, legal driving practices to prevent such devastating incidents.
