A tragic accident occurred in Santa Clara on Friday evening when an 85-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street. According to the City of Santa Clara, the incident happened around 8:48 p.m.
A witness alerted the authorities to the accident, and both police and fire crews arrived at the scene promptly. Despite their intervention, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Santa Clara Police Department’s investigation revealed that the driver of a Toyota pickup truck was heading west on Homestead Road when they collided with the elderly pedestrian who was crossing the road within a crosswalk.
The victim, a Santa Clara resident, has not been named publicly. Meanwhile, the driver, a 55-year-old resident of Cupertino, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. According to the city’s statement, drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
