Illicit street racing scene

Hit-and-Run at Illegal Street Takeover Leaves Teen Injured

Orange County authorities are on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who struck a teenage spectator during an illegal street takeover, causing serious injuries. The incident occurred on July 28, when officers from the Tustin Police Department, assisted by the Irvine Police Department, responded to calls about cars speeding on Tustin Ranch Road.

Upon arrival, officers found about 300 cars parked on the roadway and in the intersection, with vehicles performing burnouts while spectators watched, shone lasers, and set off fireworks. The police issued 20 citations for vehicle code violations and towed 51 vehicles.

During the event, a dark sedan performing burnouts struck a spectator before fleeing the scene. The victim, a teenager, captured the street takeover on video, which ended abruptly when he was hit by the car. He sustained several broken bones and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.

Authorities are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the participants of the street takeover. In addition to the hit-and-run, officials also highlighted the significant cost to taxpayers for the repair of intersections damaged during such events. They urged anyone with information to contact Detective Yuhas of the Tustin Police Department.

This incident underscores the dangers of illegal street events and the impact they can have on bystanders and public infrastructure. It serves as a potent reminder that everyone needs to respect the rules of the road to ensure the safety of all.
