Exactly one year after the sports world mourned the loss of an iconic figure, Vin Scully, fans, acquaintances, and admirers are revisiting his life and illustrious career. The renowned Los Angeles Dodgers announcer passed away on Aug. 2, 2022, at the age of 94, just a few years after his last call for the team.
On the first anniversary of his death, the Dodgers posted photos of the legendary broadcaster with a heartfelt message, “Thinking of you today and always, Vin.”
Major League Baseball Europe shared a compilation of some of Scully’s most iconic calls. Ned Colletti, a former Dodgers executive and current analyst, reminisced about their dear friend, noting his grace, style, kindness, and class. Numerous baseball enthusiasts and Dodgers fans took to social media to share their cherished memories of the incomparable announcer.
Born on November 29, 1927, in Bronx, New York, Scully began his sports broadcasting career with Fordham University before joining the then-Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950s. He moved to the West Coast with the team and became an integral part of the franchise for the next 67 years.
His exceptional contributions to the sport earned him induction into the MLB Hall of Fame in the 1980s and the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by President Barack Obama in 2016.
Scully spent his last moments at his Hidden Hills home, accompanied by his loved ones. Every Dodgers home game still resonates with his voice, his iconic catchphrase, “It’s time for Dodger baseball!”, echoing through the Dodger Stadium speakers.
