Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-580

A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred early Wednesday morning on I-580 near Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident happened in the eastbound lanes around 6:45 a.m. in the vicinity of I-580 and Greenville Road.

A gray 2007 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound when it drifted to the right and collided with yellow barrels on the shoulder, blocking the number five lane. The driver of the Toyota exited his vehicle and stood on the car’s left rear side.

A Freightliner semi-truck subsequently crashed into the stationary Toyota, causing the driver to be struck by both vehicles. The victim, a 51-year-old man from Tracy, suffered fatal injuries. His name has not yet been released by the authorities.

The California Highway Patrol has not disclosed whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
