Fatal Car Crash and Fire in Monterey County

At least one person is reported dead after a vehicle rollover and subsequent fire in Monterey County. The accident occurred late Thursday night just outside Castroville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was first reported at 11:04 p.m. near 114 Molera Road. The state agency stated that the vehicle, occupied by at least two people, might have crashed into an electric pole and rolled over about 20 feet away from the road.

On arrival at the scene at 11:10 p.m., patrol officers found the vehicle already ablaze, and at least one individual was still trapped inside the burning vehicle. It was not immediately clear whether there were more casualties.

Both the vehicle and the electric pole temporarily blocked the road, the highway patrol reported. This tragedy underscores the vital importance of safe driving practices to prevent such devastating incidents.
