In a dramatic rescue operation, the Alameda Fire Department (AFD) managed to pull four individuals from the water near the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal on Sunday afternoon. One of the victims was in cardiac arrest when rescued, and crews promptly administered CPR before rushing him to a nearby hospital. His current condition remains unknown.
AFD deployed a large team that included rescue swimmers to locate and assist the victims. Three other victims, all males, were found at varying distances from the shore, ranging from approximately 100 feet to several hundred yards. These three individuals were also transported to the hospital, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The rescue operation was a testament to the coordinated efforts of the AFD, Alameda Police Department, and the United States Coast Guard. In total, the operation involved 29 firefighters, three engines, four ambulances, one truck, a fire boat, and a rescue boat.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with water-based activities, even near the coast, and the importance of practicing safety measures while enjoying these amenities. As we await further updates on the victims’ conditions, we are reminded of the bravery and dedication of our emergency services personnel.
