Fatal Hit-and-Run in Riverside Under Investigation

A deadly hit-and-run incident occurred in Riverside on Monday, prompting an investigation by local police. A man was fatally struck by a truck while he was refueling his car on the right shoulder of the southbound Interstate 215 around 1:45 a.m.

According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a Honda sport utility truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 215 when they drifted onto the right shoulder and hit the man. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda incurred damage on the right side, and detectives have recovered broken parts of the vehicle.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the dangers of leaving the scene of an accident. Fleeing a scene, especially in the case of serious accidents, can lead to severe legal consequences and, more importantly, can delay potentially life-saving assistance to victims.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact the CHP at 951-637-8000. It is hoped that with the public’s assistance, the perpetrator can be swiftly brought to justice, and closure can be provided for the victim’s family.
