San Francisco Mayor Evacuates Maui Amid Wildfires

San Francisco Mayor London Breed was on a personal trip in Maui when deadly wildfires started ravaging the island. As of Thursday morning, the fires have claimed the lives of 36 people, a number expected to increase.

Mayor Breed has since left Maui and is currently in Oahu, as per the information from her office. Hawaii Governor Josh Green has issued an order encouraging all visitors in West Maui to leave the island due to the escalating situation.

The Mayor’s office issued a statement to KRON4, which read in part, “The Mayor was never in danger. This wildfire is devastating to witness and our thoughts are with the people of Maui.”

This situation illustrates the broad impact of the Maui wildfires, affecting not only residents but also visitors to the island. It serves as a stark reminder of the urgency and importance of effective disaster response strategies.
