Investigation into Fourth Killing at Tijuana Hotel Linked to California Man

Mexican officials are probing the death of a fourth woman at a Tijuana hotel, a location frequently visited by Bryant Rivera, a California resident who is currently the subject of extradition proceedings. Rivera is facing charges connected to the murders of at least three women in the border city across from San Diego.

Ricardo Iván Carpio Sánchez, the former Baja California Attorney General, mentioned that the case bore similarities with the previous three and authorities are investigating a potential link to Rivera. Rivera, a resident of Downey, Los Angeles, was apprehended on July 6 on a femicide charge relating to the strangulation death of Angela Carolina Acosta Flores. Her body was discovered in a hotel room in Tijuana on January 25, 2022.

Once Rivera is extradited, Mexican officials plan to present evidence in order to add charges for the deaths of two additional women in Tijuana, including new evidence harvested when Rivera was arrested in California.

The latest case under investigation occurred at the same hotel, with Carpio Sánchez noting that the victim was a woman and that there were similarities with the previous murders. However, he provided no further details or the date of the killing.

Court records revealed that Acosta’s mother reported that her daughter worked next door to the Tijuana hotel at a strip club called the Hong Kong Gentlemen’s Club and occasionally engaged in sex work. The last contact the mother had with her daughter was on January 24, 2022, when Acosta texted her about taking one of her clients into room 404 at the Las Cascadas Hotel. Later, the mother tracked her daughter’s cellphone to an address in Riverside after her body was discovered in room 404.

Security camera footage from the hotel caught a man, closely resembling Rivera’s description, entering room 404 with the victim. U.S. Customs and Border Protection records show Rivera entered the United States through the San Ysidro port of entry shortly after midnight on January 25, 2022.
