Carrie Fisher and Vin Scully Among New Additions to California Hall of Fame

The California Hall of Fame, located at the California Museum in Sacramento, has announced the inclusion of seven new members to its distinguished roster. The new additions include a trailblazing actress, a renowned L.A.-born singer-songwriter, and the voice behind one of California’s most cherished sports franchises.

Alongside Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the California Museum announced the new inductees, all being honored posthumously, in a news release published Monday. They join the ranks of over 100 inspirational Californians who have received this prestigious honor.

The newly inducted members of the 16th class of the California Hall of Fame are:

– Carrie Fisher, Actress and screenwriter
– Maggie Gee, Pilot and physicist
– Etta James, Singer
– Jose Julio Sarria, LGBTQ rights activist and pioneer
– Vin Scully, Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster
– Shirley Temple Black, Actress and public servant
– Archie Williams, Olympic gold medalist and educator

Gov. Newsom expressed his excitement over the announcement, acknowledging the significant legacies of the new inductees, which he believes will continue to inspire millions across California for generations to come.

First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom lauded the inductees as “pioneers” in their fields who embodied “the California dream through their lives and legacies.”

The California Hall of Fame was established in 2006, with the aim of celebrating individuals who made history and embodied California’s spirit of innovation. Each year, the governor and their spouse select inductees who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in various sectors such as arts, business, entertainment, and sports.

A formal virtual ceremony will be held on August 22 at 6 p.m., streaming live on the official Twitter account of the Governor’s Office and on the California Museum’s YouTube page.

Events like these offer both a celebration of the enormous talent and contributions of influential individuals, as well as a stirring reminder of the state’s rich history and culture.
