A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 880 on Sunday night, reported the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The fatal accident occurred on the southbound lanes of I-880, just north of 29th Avenue.
CHP officers responded to the scene of the crash at 11:13 p.m., where they found the victim unconscious in the left lane. Despite being resuscitated and rushed to the hospital, the victim later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the car involved in the incident cooperated with the authorities. CHP stated that alcohol is not believed to have played a part in the accident.
According to CHP, the pedestrian was moving from the freeway’s shoulder towards the center divider when they were hit. The collision took place in the middle lane.
For approximately 10-15 minutes on Sunday night, lanes were closed as CHP conducted their investigation.
