Garbage Truck Incident, Personal Injury Lawsuit

Southern California Woman Files Lawsuit After Garbage Truck Incident

Deanna Beck, a woman from San Diego, is pursuing legal action against a national trash and recycling waste management company. Beck was hit by the metal tines of one of the company’s trucks, as captured in a surveillance video from February 2021.

The incident occurred in the parking garage of an apartment complex, where Beck was walking when the driver of a Waste Management Services truck backed into her with the truck’s metal tines, causing her to fall to the ground.

Beck was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for severe neck injuries and brain trauma. She was later diagnosed with dysautonomia, a condition resulting from her injuries incurred during the incident with the garbage truck.

According to Beck’s attorneys, John Gomez and Corey Garrard, the truck driver was on his phone when he reversed and hit Beck. They also revealed that the driver had been reprimanded several times in the past for using his phone while operating a vehicle.

As a result of the incident, Beck underwent neck surgery and has been grappling with post-concussive syndrome and memory loss. Her lawsuit argues that she is suing for personal injuries, wage loss, hospital and medical expenses, general damage, and loss of earning capacity.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by distracted driving, demonstrating the importance of adherence to safety protocols, particularly for operators of large vehicles like garbage trucks. The trial is scheduled for October of this year.
