Over the weekend, a tragic accident claimed the life of a KCRA News producer at Folsom Lake, according to the station’s website. Kathryn “Katie” Hoedt, 23, died on Saturday around 12:30 p.m. after falling from a rope swing.
The accident occurred north of Rattlesnake Bar, where Hoedt fell about 30 feet onto the shoreline. Her friends transported her to a nearby boat ramp, where an off-duty doctor attempted to resuscitate her with CPR.
Park rangers arrived to assist, and Hoedt was then taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Hoedt, an accomplished young woman with a master’s degree from New York University, was a producer on the morning newscast at KCRA 3.
In the aftermath of her death, Hoedt’s parents have called for improved water safety measures at Folsom Lake. Chief ranger Barry Smith confirmed to KCRA that rope swings are not allowed at the lake due to the inherent dangers.
This incident underscores the importance of effective risk management in recreational activities and the potential consequences of overlooking safety precautions.
