An altercation outside a middle school in Oakley resulted in the arrest of a woman who was armed with a knife on Tuesday, according to the Oakley Police Department.
Officers responded to Delta Vista Middle School, located at 4901 Frank Hengel Way, around 3:25 p.m. where they successfully deescalated an argument between two adults. However, approximately 15 minutes later, another altercation involving the same individuals broke out.
61-year-old Yvette Brice of Antioch was reportedly brandishing a knife and expressing her anger towards other adults present at the scene. In response, officers attempted to separate the group.
As the officers took action, Brice moved closer to those she was arguing with and reportedly held the knife in an even more threatening manner. One officer was compelled to draw his gun as a result. Brice was taken into custody forcibly, but no injuries were reported.
During her arrest, several students started fighting, leading to the detention of a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl. Both girls were later released to their family members, and neither was armed.
Brice now faces charges of bringing a weapon onto school grounds, assault with a deadly weapon, and making criminal threats.
This incident underscores the need for heightened security measures and vigilance in educational institutions to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
