South LA Wallet Theft

LAPD Seeks Man Accused of Stealing Wallet from Unconscious Woman

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking a man who allegedly stole a wallet from an 86-year-old woman after she had been knocked unconscious. While the person responsible for the attack has already been arrested, the police are now looking for an individual who was not involved in the assault but who took the woman’s wallet while she lay unconscious on the ground.

The incident occurred on August 8 at around 2:40 p.m. in the Adams-Normandie neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and a suspect in the battery was arrested on the same day, according to an LAPD news release.

Surveillance video from a Metro bus showed numerous people standing around the incapacitated woman. Among them was a man in a New York Yankees jacket, a dark beanie, dark pants, and gray shoes. The man, thought to be in his 40s or 50s and with a mustache or goatee, is seen reaching down multiple times to the woman’s body, eventually taking her wallet and walking away.

The victim does not recall the incident due to her head injury. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jonathan Moyers at 213-359-3707. Information can also be reported anonymously via the Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or directly at lacrimestoppers.org.
