In an accident that transpired on Friday afternoon, a person was dramatically rescued after their vehicle veered off-road and drove off a cliff, as reported by the Sonoma County Sheriff on Facebook. The incident took place around 4:05 p.m., near Calistoga Road and Gates Road, about ten miles northeast of downtown Santa Rosa.
Given the challenging terrain and severity of the incident, a helicopter was deployed to the scene to aid the victim who had fallen approximately 100 feet. To execute the rescue, a 200-foot-long cable line was used to extricate the individual from their car.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office posted a video of the daring rescue, providing a glimpse into the lengths emergency responders went to ensure the victim’s safety.
Following the rescue, the individual was airlifted to an ambulance and then transported to a nearby hospital. The individual is reported to have sustained moderate injuries, but their current condition remains unknown.
The Sonoma County Fire District and the Santa Rosa Fire Department provided fire and medical personnel to assist with the response, exemplifying the coordinated efforts of different agencies in handling emergency situations.
