Aftershock Alert: Ojai Hit by Earthquake A Day After Larger Tremor

Just a day after Ventura County was rocked by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake, the same region was hit by a significant aftershock. On Monday, at around 4:50 p.m., a 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck Ojai, as per the United States Geological Survey’s preliminary report.

Monday’s quake occurred approximately 3.7 miles southeast of Ojai, at a depth of about 9.5 miles. This aftershock came slightly over 24 hours after Sunday’s larger tremor, which was felt as far as the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.

Aftershocks are a common occurrence following substantial earthquakes. They typically transpire within a close time frame of the initial quake but can persist for days or even weeks later.

Although the initial earthquake on Sunday resulted in some property damage, no severe injuries were reported. Despite the fear induced by the tropical storm conditions, residents managed to stay safe.

Monday’s quake was felt for miles beyond its epicenter, with most reports describing the quake’s intensity as “weak” or “light.”

This sequence of seismic events underscores the importance of earthquake preparedness, particularly in regions like California, prone to frequent seismic activity. It serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters and the need for effective response strategies to ensure public safety.
