Lighting Up in Remembrance: Santa Monica Pier Honors Kobe Bryant

The Santa Monica Pier is set to celebrate the life and career of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant with a special light-up display on its Ferris wheel on August 24, a date that is also recognized as Kobe Bryant Day.

The Ferris wheel will showcase two light displays that read: “LA + ❤️ + 24” and “LA + ❤️ + 8″. The displays will be complemented by patterns in purple and gold, the Lakers’ signature colors. The light show will be viewable from 7:30 p.m. until midnight on Thursday.

Kobe Bryant, a towering figure in the world of basketball, played in the NBA for two decades, all with the Los Angeles Lakers. He won five NBA championships and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

In 2020, Kobe, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were tragically killed in a helicopter crash while en route to a basketball game at his Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks. The crash was a global shock, and the world continues to mourn and remember Bryant and the other victims of the crash.

The Santa Monica Pier’s tribute is a heartfelt gesture to commemorate a beloved sports icon. It’s a poignant reminder of how influential figures can touch the lives of many and continue to inspire even after their passing.
