Dogs waiting for adoption

Aloha Pups: Maui Dogs Available for Adoption in Bay Area

Several dogs from Hawaii are now up for adoption in the Bay Area. This move was undertaken to free up space at the Maui Humane Society for animals affected by the recent devastating wildfires.

The dogs, which were already awaiting adoption at the Maui Humane Society, were transported on a donated private jet. Volunteers from the Marin Humane Society in Novato were on hand to greet the dogs and transport them to their facility.

Relocating these dogs to Marin allows the Maui volunteers to focus on taking in more animals that have lost their homes due to the wildfire. The effort required to care for animals in a disaster zone is substantial, and the challenge is amplified given the island context of Maui.

The group of dogs included two puppies and ten dogs ranging in age from one to two years. The dogs – a mix of smaller breeds and hound-like breeds – are also available for adoption at various other shelters across the Bay Area.

Marin Humane’s ability to help is largely thanks to the individuals who foster dogs. This act helps free up space in shelters, providing temporary homes for animals awaiting adoption.

As Hawaii continues to grapple with the aftermath of the wildfires, Marin Humane has pledged to donate all adoption fees back to the Maui Humane Society. This is a gesture of solidarity and aid during these challenging times, exhibiting the power of collaboration and compassion.
