Adrian Duran, a 27-year-old man from San Francisco, was sentenced to six years in prison on Monday for his role in a large-scale burglary at a gun store in Vacaville. The announcement came from the U.S. Department of Justice.
On June 1, 2020, Duran participated in the theft of over 70 firearms from Guns, Fishing and Other Stuff on Butcher Road, according to prosecutors.
After receiving reports of suspicious activity at the two-story gun and outdoor recreation store, police arrived at the scene, causing four vehicles to flee. This set off a high-speed chase on Interstate Highway 80, with speeds reaching over 100 mph.
One of the vehicles, a minivan, was stopped, and a subsequent foot chase led to the arrest of Duran and four other individuals. A search of the minivan uncovered bolt cutters, a power saw, and 13 handguns with price tags.
Duran’s four co-defendants — Donte Marcel Anderson, Desteny Estrella Leilani Salazar, Tracy Whitfield, and Donley Thompson — have all pleaded guilty. Three of them are awaiting sentencing, while Thompson has already been sentenced to 33 months in prison for parole violation.
This case underscores the seriousness with which the law views gun theft and the stringent measures in place to curb illegal possession and distribution of firearms.
