Fire at Texas State Prison Leads to Inmate Evacuation

A unit at a prison in Huntsville, Texas, known colloquially as “The Walls,” caught fire early on Friday morning, leading to the evacuation of all inmates.

The fire was reportedly discovered at around 2:30 a.m. when thick smoke was spotted. Emergency crews arrived to find a unit of the historic prison engulfed in flames.

All 655 inmates were evacuated from the affected unit to another facility and have been accounted for.
