Arrest Made in Pasadena Hit-and-Run That Claimed Two Lives
Tragedy struck on Wednesday night in Pasadena when a hit-and-run collision claimed the lives of two individuals. However, there is some relief as police have made an arrest in connection with the incident. The victims have been identified, shedding light on the lives lost in this devastating event.
The collision, a violent two-vehicle crash, occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of North Raymond Avenue and East Penn Street. According to authorities, the suspects were driving a stolen Lincoln Navigator when they disregarded a stop sign and crashed into a Nissan Versa carrying two individuals.
The driver of the Nissan Versa, identified as 63-year-old Antonio Mendoza-Hernandez from Los Angeles, tragically died at the scene. The passenger, 33-year-old Veralice Yanira Membreno Orellana from Altadena, was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
On Thursday, police arrested 30-year-old Altadena resident Jeffery Butler outside his home. Butler is believed to be the suspect responsible for the deadly collision. It remains unclear if the passenger who was also in the stolen vehicle has been apprehended at this time.
Authorities have announced that Butler has been booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit and run resulting in death.
The Pasadena Police’s Traffic Section detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on October 23, seeking further legal action against the suspect.
