In a surprising turn of events, a certain pig named Kevin Bacon has captured the attention of both the media and actor Kevin Bacon himself. Located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, this little piggy has been on the run for weeks, leaving its owner and neighbors in a quandary. As news of the runaway pig spread, the Golden Globe-winning actor, who coincidentally shares the same name, took to social media to express his support, stating, “Bring Kevin Bacon home.”
The pig’s owner, Chelsea Rumbaugh, shared the story of Kevin Bacon’s escape, which occurred less than 24 hours after his arrival at his new home. Despite several returns for food, Kevin Bacon has managed to elude capture, even with daily attempts made by Rumbaugh and her neighbors.
Interestingly, positive interactions and a sense of safety seem to be at play in Kevin Bacon’s behavior. Rumbaugh shared that the pig would look up at her and acknowledge her presence, indicating a level of comfort. In fact, Rumbaugh and her husband have a larger vision for their home, which includes creating a pig sanctuary that offers therapy sessions and visits for individuals struggling with PTSD or other neurodivergences.
However, their immediate goal is to bring Kevin Bacon back home. To achieve this, Rumbaugh plans to combine affection, as seen in their close encounter, with a redesigned enclosure and a trap. While Rumbaugh and her family have experience with animals, they admittedly did not anticipate the challenges that a 200-pound pig on the loose would present.
Interestingly, Kevin Bacon’s name was given to him by his former owner, and Rumbaugh had not yet decided whether to change it before he escaped. Now, with the pig’s newfound fame, she has no intention of changing his name. It seems to fit perfectly in the company of their other piglets, who sport names like “Two Hock” and “Salt and Porker.”
