Expanding Access: SamTrans Extends Free On-Demand Transit Service In an effort to enhance accessibility and improve transportation options for residents, the San Mateo County Transit District has announced the extension of its free promotional period for the Ride Plus on-demand service. Originally set to expire at the end of October, the program will now continue through December 31. This extension aims to provide continued support to individuals living in Half Moon Bay, El Granada, East Palo Alto, and the Belle Haven area of Menlo Park. Since its launch, Ride Plus has experienced significant growth in ridership, particularly with its microtransit vans serving East Palo Alto and Belle Haven. The service has witnessed a steady rise, with nearly 2,800 trips per month, a substantial increase from its initial months of operation in June and July. This growth is a testament to the value and convenience the service brings to the community. Starting January 1, 2024, Ride Plus adult one-way fares will be $2.25 for cash payments and $2.05 for Clipper card users. Youth and eligible discount fares will be $1.10 for cash payments and $1.00 with Clipper. Passes will also be accepted. It is important to note that fares are fixed per person, regardless of the distance traveled. While trips on Ride Plus must begin and end within the designated service areas, passengers have the option to transfer to connecting SamTrans routes that serve San Mateo County, as well as parts of San Francisco and Palo Alto. This connectivity provides a comprehensive transportation network for residents, allowing them to reach various destinations with ease. The impact of Ride Plus has been particularly significant for seniors residing in the Half Moon Bay area. Sandra Winter, the Executive Director of Senior Coastsiders, expressed her appreciation for the service, stating that it has fulfilled a critical mobility need for seniors in the community. She emphasized the value and convenience that Ride Plus brings to their lives and expressed excitement about the extended promotional period. At a time when transportation options are crucial for the well-being and quality of life of individuals, the extension of the Ride Plus on-demand service demonstrates a commitment to improving accessibility and meeting the needs of the community. By providing expanded transportation options and fostering connectivity, SamTrans is taking a proactive approach towards enhancing the mobility and convenience of residents in San Mateo County.
