Father Accused of Killing Daughter’s Ex-Boyfriend in Palmdale: Seeking Justice and Safety in the Face of Tragedy The community of Palmdale is in shock and mourning after a father was accused of murdering his daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Jose Guadalupe Mendoza, 60, remains on the run as authorities continue their search for him. The victim, Giovannie Gutierrez, 26, was found fatally shot on Sierra Highway on November 20, 2022. In a press conference held by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Gutierrez’s family announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to Mendoza’s arrest. The events leading up to the tragic incident began with a verbal dispute between Gutierrez and his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Mendoza. During the argument, Gutierrez took Sarah’s phone. The following day, Sarah met with Gutierrez in Palmdale to retrieve her phone. However, the meeting turned into a heated argument, prompting Sarah to drive away from the location. Gutierrez pursued Sarah, chasing her in his car. According to authorities, Gutierrez attempted to strike Sarah’s vehicle multiple times, causing her to swerve into oncoming traffic. Thankfully, she managed to swerve back into her lane before crashing into Gutierrez’s vehicle. Sarah’s car came to a stop on Sierra Highway along the center median. Gutierrez stopped his car behind Sarah’s, exited his vehicle, and approached her car. He opened the car door and began searching for her phone. In a desperate attempt for help, Sarah called her sister. It was during this call that Gutierrez allegedly removed Sarah’s car keys from the ignition and drove away in his vehicle, leaving her stranded in the middle of the highway. One of Sarah’s sisters dialed 911 to report the assault, while another sister reached out to their father, Jose Mendoza, informing him of Gutierrez’s actions. Gutierrez eventually returned to where Sarah was stranded just before her father arrived. Sarah recounted that Gutierrez was still searching inside her car when she suddenly heard a single gunshot and saw her father leaving the scene in his car. Authorities revealed that as Gutierrez attempted to gain entry into Sarah’s car, a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck arrived at the scene. A passenger from the Ford Ranger approached Gutierrez and shot him once in the head. Gutierrez was found unconscious in the street, with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, Jose Mendoza, initially turned himself in at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station but left the lobby after waiting for approximately 12 minutes. He has not been seen since. Mendoza is described as a Hispanic man, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds. Authorities caution that he may be armed with a semi-automatic handgun. If spotted, the public is urged to avoid approaching him and to contact law enforcement immediately. The loss of Giovannie Gutierrez has left his family devastated, and they are seeking justice for his untimely death. Max Valadez, Gutierrez’s uncle, expressed the family’s grief and determination to find the person responsible for the crime. He emphasized that they will not stop fighting for justice and announced a $5,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of Jose Mendoza. In the face of this tragedy, it is essential for the community to come together, support the Gutierrez family, and assist law enforcement in their search for the suspect. The safety and well-being of our loved ones should always be a priority, and incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that exist in our society.
