Inglewood Marijuana Scam: Seeking Justice and Raising Awareness for Safe Transactions
In a shocking incident, three individuals have been charged with the murder of one person and the injury of another during a marijuana scam in Inglewood. The suspects, Mateo Paul, Leandrew Raglin, and Iysis Elanore Smith, allegedly planned the robbery of marijuana dealers they had contacted through social media. The trio has been federally charged with Hobbs Act robbery and using firearms in relation to a crime of violence resulting in murder. These charges serve as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with illicit transactions and the importance of ensuring safety in all dealings.
According to officials, the suspects would reach out to victims under the pretense of purchasing marijuana and then lure them to a specific location where they would carry out the robbery. On March 15, 2021, Smith approached a vehicle occupied by the victims, distracting them while Paul and Raglin parked behind their car. Raglin then exited their vehicle, approached the passenger side of the victims’ car, and opened fire. The gunshots struck one victim multiple times, and Raglin proceeded to walk around to the driver’s side, firing shots that tragically ended the life of the person in the driver’s seat. Raglin then stole the dropped marijuana, while Paul drove away in their getaway car and Smith fled the area on foot. The stolen marijuana was later divided among the suspects, who proceeded to consume it.
In the subsequent investigation, all three suspects were apprehended at different times. Smith, who had been a fugitive for three months, was located in Lynwood on September 13, while Paul was arrested on November 13 and Raglin on October 31. Currently, each suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and their trials are scheduled for various dates in 2024. If convicted, they could face a potential life sentence in prison.
This devastating incident highlights the risks involved in engaging in illegal activities and the profound consequences that can result from such actions. It also underscores the importance of establishing safe protocols and raising awareness about the potential dangers surrounding illicit transactions, particularly those involving drugs. While the allure of easy money and quick deals may be tempting, it is crucial to prioritize personal safety and adhere to legal channels for acquiring goods and services.
Law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI’s Violent Gangs Task Force and the Inglewood Police Department, play a critical role in investigating and apprehending individuals involved in violent crimes. Their efforts are instrumental in maintaining community safety and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. By collaborating with law enforcement and supporting their initiatives, we can contribute to a safer environment for all.
As a community, we must remain vigilant and take precautions to protect ourselves and others from falling victim to scams and criminal activities. It is essential to exercise caution when engaging in any transaction, especially those involving high-risk items. Utilizing legal and regulated channels for purchasing goods not only ensures personal safety but also contributes to the overall well-being of our communities.
In light of this tragic event, we must come together to support the victims and their families, while advocating for safer practices in all transactions. By raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and encouraging responsible behavior, we can work towards preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
