Tragic Crash Claims Man’s Life in Covina, CA
In a devastating incident, a man lost his life after his car lost control and collided with two other vehicles in Covina, California. The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred on Arrow Highway near Barranca Avenue at 9:27 p.m. on Monday evening.
According to officials, a 60-year-old man from San Dimas was driving a 2001 Audi A4 westbound on Arrow Highway at an undetermined speed when he lost control of the vehicle and veered into the eastbound lanes. The Audi collided with two oncoming vehicles, a Hyundai Accent and a Mazda 3.
The sequence of events unfolded as follows: “The Audi traveled into the number one lane of eastbound Arrow Highway and collided into the Hyundai,” said the CHP. “The Audi continued out of control and entered the number two lane of eastbound Arrow Highway and collided with the Mazda.”
Tragically, the San Dimas man was ejected from his vehicle during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The authorities have not yet released his identity. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Jessica Ottaviano, a 39-year-old from Pomona, sustained major injuries and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital. The occupants of the Mazda, Estephanie Padilla, 32, and a 14-year-old girl from El Monte, suffered minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.
While witnesses reported that the vehicles were racing prior to the crash, the California Highway Patrol has yet to confirm this information. Additionally, law enforcement officials have stated that alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the collision.
Footage from the scene shows the aftermath of the tragic accident, with the three cars severely damaged and debris scattered across the roadway and sidewalk. Disturbingly, one of the vehicles appears to have caught fire.
