Street takeovers led to the closure of intersections in the Hyde Park, Harvard Park, and Gramercy Park neighborhoods of South Los Angeles overnight.
One such incident occurred around midnight at the intersection of West Century Boulevard and Denker Avenue in the Gramercy Park area. A red pickup truck was seen doing doughnuts in the street before it hit the curb, causing the vehicle to launch into the air.
The driver lost control of the truck as it landed, and it subsequently drove into a crowd that had gathered in the intersection. It currently remains unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.
A Metro bus driver, who was stuck in traffic due to the chaos, managed to record some of the activity on her cellphone. Despite the circumstances, the bus driver seemed to be in good spirits but expressed concern for her passengers.
So far, it is unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with these incidents. This event highlights the constant danger and unpredictability of illegal street racing and takeovers, as well as the importance of law enforcement in deterring such activities to ensure public safety.
