Felony Elder Abuse Case in Half Moon Bay: A Troubling Incident Recently, a 49-year-old resident of Half Moon Bay was arrested by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office for felony elder abuse. The incident unfolded on Elderberry Road in Unincorporated Half Moon Bay when the sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the deputies encountered a chaotic scene. The suspect, Ramon Ramirez Perez, was allegedly threatening his elderly parents and causing significant damage to their residence. He was heard yelling incoherently in Spanish and was seen breaking windows. Disturbingly, Ramirez Perez’s parents reported that he had made threats to harm his father by ripping his heart out of his chest. The parents also expressed concern that Ramirez Perez may have been under the influence of drugs. To ensure the safety of the community, the deputies established a perimeter and advised residents in the surrounding area to avoid the ongoing incident. They made multiple announcements, both in English and Spanish, using a patrol vehicle’s PA system, urging Ramirez Perez to surrender. Unfortunately, he did not comply. Eventually, the deputies entered the residence and found Ramirez Perez in his bedroom, armed with a makeshift weapon. They successfully took him into custody

however, during the arrest, one of the deputies sustained a minor injury.

Following the arrest, Ramirez Perez was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation. Once cleared, he was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility and faces multiple charges, including elder abuse, criminal threats, battery on emergency personnel, obstruction and resistance, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable members of our society, particularly the elderly.
