A 2-year-old toddler was fatally struck by a vehicle in a Fremont parking lot on Thursday evening, according to the police.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in a parking lot located in the 5000 block of Mowry Avenue, as announced by Fremont police on Friday. The child was subsequently taken to a hospital but passed away there.
The driver who hit the toddler stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The police are now seeking video surveillance footage from the area that might have captured the collision.
According to the police, speed and impairment do not seem to have been contributory factors in the collision, which is the seventh fatal traffic incident on Fremont streets this year. The Fremont Police Department expressed deep sorrow over the incident in a statement, saying, “This tragedy deeply saddens Fremont Police Department, and we sympathize with the juvenile’s family. As a community, we mourn this tragic loss of life.”
