On Tuesday, an aggressive dog got loose in a Petaluma neighborhood, leading to a temporary shelter-in-place order. According to the Petaluma Police Department, the dog bit a local resident, who had to be hospitalized due to moderate injuries.
The situation unfolded on the 1200 block of San Rafael Drive at about 3:25 p.m., prompting a response from the police. On arriving at the scene, two officers were immediately charged at by the dog. Both officers deployed their tasers, causing the dog to retreat.
With the arrival of additional officers, the dog was contained until its owner arrived. However, due to the animal’s aggressive behavior, a shelter-in-place order was issued until the dog could be secured.
The breed of the dog was not specified by the authorities. North Bay Animal Services was called to the scene for further investigation. The dog is now under a 10-day bite quarantine.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the potential public safety risks that can arise when animals become aggressive or uncontrollable.
