Airbnb Offers Full Refunds for Maui Bookings Amid Wildfires

In the wake of the devastating wildfires ravaging Maui, Airbnb has initiated a full-refund policy for guests with accommodation bookings on the island. The short-term rental platform’s extenuating circumstances policy is currently in effect for Hawaii, including the entirety of Maui, according to a company representative.

This policy allows eligible guests to cancel their bookings and receive a full refund without any penalties. Likewise, hosts in the affected areas have the option to cancel without incurring fees or other consequences.

The same policy is also in effect for parts of the Big Island impacted by wildfires. Hosts and guests with eligible stays in these areas can get information directly through their Airbnb account.

Airbnb is closely monitoring the unfolding situation and will provide further information as it becomes available. The move comes as Maui grapples with the aftermath of severe wildfires that have nearly razed the historic town of Lahaina, claimed at least 55 lives, and left approximately 1,000 individuals unaccounted for.
