Officials have announced the arrest of a woman in connection with a fatal crash that took place in Apple Valley earlier this year.
Ashley Aline Marty, 25, was arrested on August 12 and has since been charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated related to the crash that occurred on January 22.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 18 and Flathead Road.
Investigations revealed that a Dodge Challenger heading west on the highway and a Kia Sorento moving north on Flathead Road collided when one of the vehicles failed to stop at a red light.
86-year-old Byron Weekly, the driver of the Sorento, was transported to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Challenger also required hospital treatment for minor injuries.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Marty, who was subsequently taken into custody. Her bail was set at $400,000 according to officials.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from negligent driving practices, such as failing to stop at red lights or driving under the influence.
