The Berkeley Police Department announced the arrest of a man who reportedly participated in a large brawl and consequently crashed his car into a marked BPD vehicle. A second individual was also arrested for discarding a firearm, according to police.
On July 28, police responded to a disturbance involving a “large group of males” on the 2200 block of Bonar Street and were informed of a man with a firearm at the scene. The armed man reportedly entered a white sedan.
Around the same time, there was another fight at Strawberry Creek Park, a short distance from Bonar Street. Officers attempted to stop a white sedan associated with this second fight. Rather than complying, the driver of the car accelerated and crashed into a BPD vehicle. The driver then reversed, crashed into a parked car, and subsequently crashed into a fence.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Berkeley jail. Police later recovered a firearm at Strawberry Creek Park and arrested the individual who allegedly discarded it. The identities of the arrestees remain undisclosed.
This case is a stark reminder of the challenges and dangers police officers often face in maintaining public safety. It also underscores the value of swift and effective law enforcement responses to such incidents.
