President Biden’s dog, Commander, a German Shepherd, has reportedly been involved in several aggressive incidents that have resulted in injuries to Secret Service officers. Emails obtained by conservative legal activist group Judicial Watch, following a Freedom of Information Act request lawsuit, detailed 10 alleged attacks by the nearly two-year-old dog between October 2022 and January.
In one incident in November, an officer reportedly had to use a steel cart to shield himself from an attack by the dog, which left him with injuries on his upper right arm and thigh and in “a considerable amount of pain.” Another officer warned of Commander’s “extremely aggressive behavior,” noting an incident where the First Lady could not regain control of the dog as it circled the officer.
One officer, who was bitten on the thigh by Commander, expressed concern about the potential for a serious attack or bite incident in the future. Other emails noted more minor biting incidents involving the dog.
This is not the first time a Biden family dog has been involved in aggressive episodes. In 2021, Major, another German Shepherd belonging to President Biden, was removed from the White House and relocated to the family’s home in Delaware following several reported aggressive episodes.
As personal injury bloggers, we often discuss the responsibilities of pet owners to ensure the safety of others. This includes properly training and controlling pets to prevent incidents of aggression. Public figures, including the President, are not exempt from these responsibilities. We hope this situation serves as a reminder to pet owners of the importance of taking measures to prevent aggressive behavior in their pets.
