Billy Porter Reveals Financial Struggles Amid Hollywood Strikes

Actor Billy Porter recently disclosed that he has to sell his house due to the ongoing strike by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). He revealed this in an interview with the Evening Standard, expressing his struggle due to the halted work on several upcoming film and TV projects.

The actor, known widely for his role in the FX series “Pose,” voiced his frustration over the current situation where actors lack the ability to receive residual payments from streaming services. Porter also criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger for his comments that striking writers’ demands aren’t realistic.

The SAG-AFTRA, a union representing more than 160,000 actors, announcers, journalists, and other artists, voted to strike last month after failed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The union demands better wage increases and working conditions for its members.

The SAG-AFTRA strike coincides with the strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which began earlier this year, pushing for better compensation for content produced for streaming services.

Porter’s revelations throw light on the significant impact such strikes can have on individuals within the industry, emphasizing the importance of fair compensation and working conditions for workers in the entertainment field.
