The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating after a person’s charred body was discovered near a freeway off-ramp in downtown Los Angeles. The gruesome find was made around 4:55 p.m. on Monday, near the 10 Freeway off-ramp at Maple Avenue.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews initially responded to the scene, alongside the Los Angeles Police Department. They located the burned body at the bottom of the off-ramp, near some “construction containers.” The severe state of the body prompted the commencement of a death investigation.
Although authorities have not yet determined if they suspect foul play, the Los Angeles Police Department handed over the investigation to the CHP. The off-ramp in question was subsequently closed.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was summoned to the scene, and CHP investigators stayed to conduct further inquiries. During this time, drivers were advised to avoid the area due to potential traffic delays.
The off-ramp was eventually reopened around 8:15 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing, highlighting the complexity and sensitivity of such cases.
