In response to the devastating wildfires ravaging Maui, celebrities such as Oprah, Jason Momoa, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are stepping up to extend their assistance to those affected.
Oprah, who resides on the island part-time, visited a shelter at the War Memorial Stadium, providing essential items to those directly impacted by the blaze. In an Instagram video post, she pledged her ongoing support, promising to make a significant donation once the rebuilding requirements are determined.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who spent part of his childhood in Honolulu, used social media to urge people to help. The “Black Adam” star expressed his heartbreak over the destruction in Maui and directed his followers to donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
Jason Momoa, born in Honolulu, stressed on Instagram that Maui is not a vacation destination at this difficult time, urging people to respect the island’s struggle. He directed his followers to donate to the nonprofit organization, ʻĀina Momona.
These wildfires, which have resulted in 96 fatalities to date, are the deadliest in over a century in the U.S., surpassing the 1960 tsunami in Hawaii and the 2018 Camp Fire in northern California. The ongoing crisis underscores the importance of collective efforts in providing aid, just as these celebrities have done.
