Community Outraged Over Harm to Parrots in Temple City
Residents of Temple City, California, are expressing their deep concern and outrage after a man was spotted installing nets to catch and potentially harm wild parrots in the community. Several of these beautiful birds have been found dead, as the nets cause them to fall onto the streets where they are tragically run over by cars.
A disturbing cell phone video captured the suspect carrying a parrot inside a net along a busy street. He then proceeds to return to his car, parrot in tow, and drives away. The act of catching these birds in such a cruel manner has left community members appalled, and they are taking every possible action to put an end to this behavior.
KTLA crew members ventured down Rosemead Boulevard and witnessed multiple nets hanging from trees along the busy streets. Some of the nets even had water bottles attached to anchor them in the trees.
This heartless practice not only threatens the lives of these innocent parrots but also jeopardizes the safety of drivers. Samantha Alexander, a compassionate individual who has helped rescue some of the trapped parrots, expressed her shock and disgust over this inhumane act. She stated, “It’s almost made me vomit. I just couldn’t believe that somebody would do something like that. It’s so disgusting and inhumane.”
Although the exact intentions of the suspect remain unclear, Alexander and others are desperate for his actions to be stopped before more birds are harmed. Unfortunately, authorities have yet to determine which charges can be pursued in this case. The city is currently exploring potential violations of local codes in order to bring charges or at least check the welfare of the birds by visiting the suspect’s home.
The San Gabriel Valley Humane Society has been actively involved in responding to reports of trapped parrots. They have promptly taken down the nets and released the birds. They urge the public to contact them or the authorities if they come across any nets, ensuring immediate removal.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has initiated an investigation into the incident, seeking to identify possible charges against the suspect. They urge anyone who spots a net to contact the authorities so that staff members can intervene promptly.
